Northport Limited is an international gateway into New Zealand and has a statutory obligation to comply with many types of legislation, these regulations may impact on your visit to the Port. 

The port complies with the provisions of the Maritime Security Act 2004, and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code). ISPS Compliance No. is NZWRE 24637 - 1109 Northport operates 24/7 manned security, housed in the Port Services Centre which is located at the ports main entrance at the end of Port Marsden Highway and is operated by Northport employees. 

Northport operates a 24/7 video surveillance and electronic card access systems throughout the port facility.

FACILITY

SecurityLevels

Northport is a secure facility with authorised access through manned gates and operates at Level 1 security unless otherwise stated. Maritime New Zealand is responsible for setting the Maritime Security Levels of New Zealand ports.

 

Security Level 1
Normal day-to-day operational level whereby minimum appropriate protective security measures are maintained at all times. These include such measures as the presenting of photo ID when entering the Port, searching of bags and vehicles, and various levels of access control.

 

Security Level 2
Appropriate additional protective security measures must be maintained for a period of time as a result of heightened risk of a security incident. These security measures are generally obtained by an increase in the procedures listed at Level 1. 

 

Security Level 3
Further specific protective security measures must be maintained for a limited period of time when a security incident is probable or imminent. Again, an increase in the security measures listed above for Level 2 are employed with the aid of the various Government agencies. 

Legislation

The area within the Northport boundaries as published in the NZ Gazette is subjected to legislative regulations that must be complied with. 
The regulations are for the security of trade and tourism, and to safeguard port staff, users and local communities from terrorism and transnational crime.
