Protecting Our Environment

The Whangarei Harbour and surrounding area is arguably one of the most beautiful harbours in New Zealand, which Northport is very mindful of. This is not only a place of work for us. It's our community too, therefore we take great pride in ensuring our facility contributes to the betterment of the local environment.

Northport holds a number of Resource Consents - under the Resource Management Act 1991 - which are periodically reviewed and complied with in order to ensure the quality of the local environment is maintained.

Environmental activities associated with the port that are monitored and reported on are as follows:

  • The Stormwater Catchment and Treatment System
  • Stormwater Discharge
  • Dust
  • Noise
  • Lighting
  • Capital Dredging
  • Construction activities

Under their respective resource consent, the above activities are subject to ongoing monitoring with guidelines, conditions, or restrictions in place. Northport works hard at maintaining an environmentally sound operation, which it is very proud of.
