Solar surge at Ruakākā: Northport welcomes wave of Meridian equipment

Back in May last year we told the story of how Northport was handling the arrival of 80 battery storage units for the 100-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) at Meridian Energy’s Ruakākā Energy Park.

Meridian started construction on the second stage of the park, a 130MW solar farm, in recent months. Ultimately this will cover about 163ha of the 201ha project site and produce up to 230GWh of energy per year from about 250,000 solar panels.

This will be injected into the national grid at Transpower’s Bream Bay substation.

Big blades, bigger ambitions: parts for Dargaville wind farm start landing at Northport

Components to be used in the construction of Mercury’s Kaiwaikawe wind farm near Dargaville have started arriving at Northport.

The first shipment arrived in early January from Taicang, China, aboard the general cargo ship BBC Rhine. It comprised 55 tower sections weighing about 100 tonnes each, and ancillary equipment.

Other components are set to arrive towards the middle of January and in the first week of February.

Mercury plans to start transporting the equipment to the wind farm project site in February.
