An innovative Kiwi company using a revolutionary, ‘Lego-like’ technique to carve months off building projects is bringing pre-fabricated pods to the Upper North Island from Vietnam, through Northport. TLC Modular is taking advantage of available space and competitive laydown rates at the port to store its modules (white shapes in image above) before shipping them to building projects across the upper North Island.
Northport had no calls booked for Auckland-bound container cargo at the time of Storm Gabrielle so the damage to road and rail infrastructure between Auckland and Whangarei has not resulted in cancelled calls or any drop in planned or forecast container throughput. There has been no impact to the regular Northport coastal shipping and international services offered by CMA, MSC, Pacifica and Swire.
Storm Gabrielle swept into town over the weekend of 11 and 12 February, quickly making herself felt all over Northland. We are indebted to the large number of people who worked hard to ready the port for her attack and who, once she’d left us, did everything necessary to get us up and running again so efficiently.
